The sutures dissolved easily, and now [25th September] the scar lines etc have healed beautifully, without any irregular lines or bumps in the skin.
Your advise in removing the frenulm was correct, as now the penis is and looks much cleaner and neater.
I wish that I had found your web page sooner, and would have come to for my 1st circumcision [needed for inability to retract the foreskin easily] as opposed to my local private hospital which charged more money and required me to have a full general aesthetic. Having read your website and also having contacted your surgery staff for advice before my son's operation, I thought it might be of use to other parents for you to have a letter that you can post onto your 'patients comments' section of your website.
My son (age 10 years) had a retractable, but very tight foreskin (which intermittently tended to get a bit inflamed and which had also on occasions got 'stuck' when retracted). After much debate (and a discussion with him about his feelings on the matter) we decided that we would go ahead and have him circumcised whilst he was still young enough not to be hugely embarrassed by the procedure.
Having taken time to explain things fully to him, he was not in any way frightened of the surgery. During the operation itself he was calm and relaxed, playing on his 'Gameboy' throughout. Post operatively he had no significant discomfort whatsoever (only Calpol Six-Plus was required for analgesia).
Removing the dressing the day after the operation was obviously slightly uncomfortable, however after a good soak in the bath he was able to accomplish this himself (with a bit of parental reassurance). The bruising and swelling all settled within about seven days and the stitches dissolved completely after two weeks. As a keen sportsman he had ten days off sport (although he had been out climbing trees three days after his operation!)
After healing my son has a very pleasing cosmetic result, with a straight scar line and a fully uncovered glans. He has been delighted with the outcome and has said to us that it looks and feels much neater and is much easier to keep clean. He also feels much more relaxed about passing urine (which in retrospect he had found a bit directionally unpredictable whilst he still had a foreskin!)
In summary; he has not been adversely affected in the slightest way by the procedure, nor has he become at all self conscious or embarrassed after it. Prior to the operation he had chosen to keep it a secret from his school friends. However, after his return to school (his operation was done during half term) he has had a full discussion with his friends about his experiences.
He has said to me that his advice to any boy considering whether to have the operation or not; would be 'go for it' - certainly as a parent I feel we made the correct decision and any concerns that I had about my son having it done at this age were completely unfounded.
I would like to thank Dr Zarifa very much indeed for the excellent and neat job that he did and also for the professionalism exhibited him and by all of his staff at Custom House Surgery.

Why did I choose Custom House Surgery for my re-do circumcision? In truth, there were several reasons, among them:
1. The very informative web site, and, in particular, the fulsome reports in the Patients' Comments section.
2. The knowledge that a named individual, Sylvia, would answer the 'phone and arrange my appointment for a date convenient to me.
3. That the consultation and procedure would be carried out by Dr Zarifa, and no other.
Did my experience live up to expectations? It certainly did! Taking advantage of a cancelled appointment, I was checking in at Custom House Surgery less than 24 hours after speaking to Sylvia. My reception by Sylvia was dealt with quickly and efficiently, and I waited only a few minutes before meeting Dr Zarifa. His consultation was thorough, and before going into surgery the desired outcome had been determined precisely and set out in writing together with details of the expected post-operative events. Dear team, Dr Zarifa did me a re-do circumcision on Monday 30.10.06 at 13.30pm. By 19.00pm the slight discomfort I was feeling had completely disappeared. On Sunday afternoon 5.11.06 I soaked the dressing off and found no bleeding, no infection and no gaps (gapping) whatsoever and my penis looked fantastic.
Tuesday 7.11.06 the swelling continues to go down and the bruising has started to disappear. I have had numerous erections since the dressing was removed and everything feels really good. Dr Zarifa, Sylvia and Pat, I would like to thank you all for looking after me and sorting me out.

It is now nearly 3 weeks (Friday 25 August) since I had my circumcision and all is going very well. I certainly have had no surprises or regrets.
I found myself coming to London for a work meeting and, having read the website, rang up to see if I could make an appointment, as I had been experiencing problems with a tight foreskin. I spoke to Sylvia who was really pleasant and helpful. She asked me when I was visiting London and was able to offer me an appointment for the day in question (at a suitable time after my meeting). The clinic is just around the corner from DLR Custom House station so I found it very accessible by public transport.
Dr Zarifa was really good. I remained completely relaxed throughout his consultation session and the operation itself. His approach and manner was excellent. He explained everything in detail and the after care guidance was excellent - the only thing was stinging session I experienced from application of the powder I was given to apply after my first bath -but hey, I was warned, and I work on the theory that if it stings it is doing what it is meant to do! I am healing well and have experienced no problems - all credit to Dr Zarifa and nurse Pat who was lovely and so discreet.

I was circumcised by Dr Zarifa on Monday evening and although I was petrified when I arrived (!), I quickly felt more relaxed owing to everyone at the surgery. As soon as the procedure started, I quickly realised I had nothing to worry about as I was in safe hands (it's important to know that, I realised!). I just waited for the operation to be over and had a nice chat with Dr Zarifa whilst the procedure took place. Looking back (I know it's easy to say now!), it was nothing to worry about. It is now a month since Dr Zarifa carried out my latest revision to remove around 1cm of skin, to give a tight (but comfortable) result. Everything went very well during the operation, and some 20+ stitches were used to ensure the cut edges would not pull apart during the healing. During the following hours and days discomfort was minimal, and by day 11 the wound was healing nicely with the lumps and bumps starting to subside.
The revision has turned out exactly as I hoped it would, with the ideal amount of skin removed to virtually eliminate all shaft skin movement. My advice to anyone considering a circumcision or revision is to discuss fully with Dr Zarifa exactly what you want or expect from the operation, to avoid any possible confusion over how it turns out - in my case it probably took a full 15 minutes for us to agree on precisely what was to be done simply because I don't understand medical terminology. Thank you, doctor, for giving me such an excellent result, your skill and expertise made it a very happy experience.

You recircumcised me 4 weeks ago to remove some loose skin which remained from my original circumcision, 20 years previously.
May I say that from my initial reception by Sylvia, to the moment that left Custom House Surgery following the procedure, everything possible was done to put me at ease and to make me comfortable. Sylvia is very discrete and tactful in her approach to what is, after all, a very personal matter.
The consultation with Dr Zarifa covered all aspects of the matter comprehensively and the Doctor took especial care to discuss the options open to me and to allay any fears regarding aftercare and healing.
The procedure itself was performed with skill and expertise, from the initial injections of anaesthetic to the final application of the dressing. I wish to express my particular thanks to Dr Zarifa for the way in which he took especial pains to achieve my desired outcome of a very tight and neat circumcision, even to the extent of cutting a second time to ensure the complete removal of all surplus skin before inserting the tiny but effective sutures.
The end result is exactly as my wife and I wished it to be. The circumcision is tight at all times, with a clear sulcus and no wrinkling or bunching even when seated. The healing process is now complete. A little local swelling remains in the vicinity of the scar line, but this diminishes daily and the cosmetic effect is near perfect. I now enjoy the comfort and appearance which I always desired. Thank you for your skill and consideration.

It is now three months since my circumcision procedure and I am just dropping a quick note to thank you. And, if there are any others who are still in two minds, that they couldn't be in better hands - The result is perfect!
Dr. Zarifa conducted a very informative pre-operative appointment that discussed everything that was going to happen. The humour that was used made the very nervous situation so much better.
He allowed my wife to come into watch the procedure (although neither of us looked!). Once the anaesthetic had been injected (just a small prick!) it was a very painless and simple experience. I took a painkiller - just in case - for the journey home, and this would prove to be the last I needed as there was no pain.
The healing process went exactly to plan - and 3 weeks later I was now very proud to be circumcised and am happy to say that both my wife and I are delighted. If only I had known that it really would be this painless I would not have put it off until I was 47 years old!

Dear Dr Zuhair,
You will recall that you re-circumcised me on the 20th May, following a rather looser circumcision that I had in June 2003. I was rather nervous about a second procedure which I know you were aware of when I had my consultation with you.
May I just say that now, after three months of healing, all is absolutely perfect and both of us are delighted. The scar has softened and flattened after going through that rather constrictive phase which makes erections a little off-putting
That phase lasted about four weeks which I was aware of as a result of my earlier procedure. It may be worth mentioning this to prospective patients as I know the first time round this happened I was quite dismayed until I realised that this is purely a process the healing penile skin goes through.
The sutures came out/fell out/ were pulled it at around ten days to a fortnight. The redness has faded and in fact it is now not at all obvious that have been circumcised as an adult. The glans is untouched when I am soft, and when erect all is as it should be, and even better!
My sincere thanks to you in making a surgical improvement to this vital part of my life. I hope you had a great holiday in France with the family, All good wishes

I would like to say thank you to Doctor Zarifa and Sylvia for their understanding and care during my circumcision.
I travelled down to London from the Midlands after seeing this website and being very unimpressed with the urologist I had seen at my local hospital, I was also worried about having a general anaesthetic.
Dr Zarifa's consultation was very informative and I went away waiting for my operation knowing I could trust him with what he was going to do.
I was very nervous at the start of the procedure but Dr Zarifa soon helped me to relax and was very professional throughout. The aftercare was also exceptional. Dr Zarifa supplies you with all the information you need for aftercare. I found this information very useful and reassuring. After the operation.I contacted Dr Zarifa on two occasions when I was worried about my healing; one call to his beeper and he called back immediately. Thankfully I had nothing to worry about.
It has been six weeks since I had my operation done and I am now fully healed up. I found Dr Zarifa a very pleasant, professional and understanding doctor and would definitely recommend him to anyone considering a circumcision.

From DC in Hants It is now five months since my circumcision and I am sorry that I haven't written before now to say how brilliantly you performed this age-old but such worthwhile surgery for me. There was very little pain and discomfort after the operation and I didn't need to take any painkillers whatsoever. The only minor problem I encountered was a small 'bulge' of raw flesh which appeared between two stiches around the circumference of my penis a few days after the procedure which has left a swollen scar approximately 3/8 inch long. The rest of the scar line is perfectly neat and I am particularly impressed by the neatness of the area where you excised the frenulum.
Thank you so much for the way in which you put me and my wife at our ease, for providing this excellent service at such a fair and reasonable cost and for the brilliant end result. From Anon West Midlands You did a circumcision for me last June at the rather old age of 66. It has now completely settled down and has eliminated 99.5% of the circinate balanitis problem I had,probably as a result of my ankylosing spondylitis. I am very pleased. I say 99.5%, because I very occasionally get a psoriasis-type problem in what I think is called the coronal sulcus. I have heard this called \"string of pearls\" as it resembles a string of tiny white spheres. It clears up very quickly after a touch of HC45 cream. The problems I had before were so majorin comparison! Healing was quite rapid, but after three weeks a split appeared in the underside due to erections. As my GP had supported my decision to get circumcised this problem was soon dealt with. A new supply of cicatrin powder fixed it in about 10 days. Healing is complete with a neat scar and I am so pleased with the result which is superb. From ZC I remember being very nervous before my circumcision in August but your positive attitude (and sedative) made me feel comfortable and took away a lot of the anxiety with the procedure.
The tickling of having the glans fully exposed afterwards was very uncomfortable the first weeks before I got used to the new feeling. However, once used to not having any foreskin the only real difference to me now is that it is easier to keep the penis clean. From Ian in Spain. Unfortunately I was not circumcised at birth. I grew up in an area where circumcision was not practised. Later my parents moved to an area where it was quite common so I became accustomed to the idea. My teenage years were ruined by a series of inflamations under my foreskin. I was prescribed a series of creams which cleared the problem up for a while, but it always came back. I tried to get a circumcision done on the National Health and was told it was not necessary. Later my marriage failed because the inner lining of my foreskin used to become terribly inflamed and painful during intercourse, so much so that I had to stop lovemaking on several occasions. I finally found a private clinic after seeing an advertisment in a Sunday Newspaper (pre internet!). That was 15 years ago.I cannot emphasise how much more comfortable my penis feels and it is so hygienic!. I never need to worry if I am clean 'down there', even on the hottest of days here in Spain. My great regret is that I did not have the means or the contacts to get it done when I was still young enough to reap the full benefit. The operation itself was totally painless and my recovery was without discomfort, though I was scared witless beforehand! If only I had known how easy it all is. I sincerely hope that my message here will give those of you who are doubtful the certainty to go ahead with the operation. My main worry was that my glans would be too sensitive and that I wouldn't like the feel of my penis after the circumcision but in everyday life I don't even notice it!
